CBSE Revises Rule for Change in Name, Date of Birth

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has passed an official notification stating that the students studying in CBSE schools and participating in the CBSE board exams can now apply for corrections in their name, DOB or parents’ names within 5 years from the date of which the CBSE board exam results have been declared.

The notification stated, “Limitation of cases of correction in candidate, mother and father name/correction in date of birth has been revised. The revised time limit will be 5 years from the date of declaration of result, and it will be applicable to all cases after class X/XII 2015 examination onwards”.

This notification will also be acceptable for all the ongoing cases which were already received by the regional officers as well as the headquarters of the Central Board of Secondary Examination and also cases pending in the various courts.

Previously, after the 2015 notification was passed, the candidates strictly had a year’s duration to make the changes required in their personal information. These applications for correction had to be submitted by the CBSE chairman. Although earlier, candidates could change their name or DOB by an affidavit followed by publishing an advertisement in the common newspapers. These rules were set to fix a time limit to prevent students from using this system to get a new identity by changing their name and various other details to procure passports and avail of other benefits.
