What Is the Future Continuous Tense?

Tenses are majorly divided into three types depending on the time the action has occurred, namely present tense, past tense and future tense. Now, these three major tenses can further be subdivided into four different types each. Future continuous tense is one of the four types of future tense.

In simple terms, future continuous tense refers to/denotes those verbs that are going to happen in future and are going to continue for some particular time.

How to Form Future Continuous Tense?

Have you ever wondered how future continuous tense can be formed? The simple trick is – [Subject + will be + verb in ‘-ing’ form].

For example, “John will be going to his grandmother’s house tomorrow.” Here, ‘John’ is followed by ‘will be’ and the verb in ‘-ing’ form, i.e. ‘going’.

Different Ways in Which the Future Continuous Tense Can be Used

Future continuous tense can be used in three different ways, namely affirmative future continuous tense, negative future continuous tense, and interrogative future continuous tense. Let’s look at some of the examples.

1. Affirmative future continuous tense – In these sentences, it shows that the action will be done in the future. For example, “I will be going to the movies tomorrow.”

2. Negative future continuous tense – In these sentences, it shows that the action will not be happening or done. For example, “I won’t be going to the party tonight.”

3. Interrogative future continuous tense – In this case, these sentences will be used to ask questions or seek information. For example, “Will your parents be coming to the party?”
