Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT)

GPAT is the abbreviation for Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test. GPAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). By means of this examination, only the qualified candidates are selected for admission to MPharma or equivalent courses available in the participating colleges.

Along with all the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) recognised institutions and universities, there are 800 participating institutes in GPAT. Earlier, the tests for admission to MPharma and equivalent courses used to be conducted by AICTE. But after 2017, National Testing Agency has been selected as the only autonomous body to conduct this exam for all the participating institutions. As many as 52,000 candidates appear for GPAT every year.

GPAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the GPAT 2023, candidates must check their eligibility for the exam. If a candidate is not fulfilling the GPAT 2023 eligibility criteria, then their candidature will be cancelled, and no admission will be provided even after qualifying for the examination. Some important GPAT 2023 eligibility criteria are given hereunder.

  1. There is no age limit for the candidates appearing in GPAT 2023.
  2. The participating candidate must be an Indian national.
  3. Candidates having pursued BTech Pharmaceutical, BTech Fine Chemical Technology, or similar courses are not eligible to appear in the examination. However, if a non-eligible candidate still appears for the examination, then they will not be provided admission in the participating institutions.
  4. Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy (4 years, after Grade 12, including the lateral entry candidates) or an equivalent from a recognised university.
  5. Candidates appearing for the final exams of BPharma (after Grade 12), whose results will be declared before the commencement of the admission process of MPharma after the release of GPAT 2023 Results, are also eligible to apply.

GPAT 2023 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for GPAT is designed by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam pattern for GPAT 2023 will be released by NTA in the official information brochure for GPAT 2023. The exam pattern for GPAT 2023 provides the details about the number and types of questions that will be asked in the examination. The exam pattern also provides information such as the duration, date and time of examination, marks carried by each question, total marks and negative marking (if any). GPAT is conducted in an online Computer-based Test (CBT) mode. The GPAT 2023 question paper will consist of 125 objective/Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), in which the candidate will be provided with four sets of options having only 1 correct answer. GPAT 2023 Syllabus

The National Testing Agency (NTA) determines the syllabus for GPAT. The syllabus for GPAT 2023 will be released along with the official information brochure for GPAT 2023 on the NTA official website for GPAT, i.e. gpat.nta.nic.in. The Syllabus for GPAT 2023 includes topics from subjects like Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Biopharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Management and more.

GPAT 2023 Application Form

The applications for GPAT 2023 will be invited from February 2023. The application forms for GPAT 2023 will only be accepted online, and no application forms sent via post directly to the NTA will be accepted. For seeking admission to the postgraduate pharmaceutical courses (MPharma) offered at the GPAT participating institutes, candidates must fill out the GPAT 2023 registration form by the third week of March 2023. The application window for appearing in GPAT 2023 will remain open for a span of 30 days (tentative). Candidates can find the link to fill out the GPAT application form online on the official website, i.e., gpat.nta.nic.in.

For the online application, candidates must proceed according to the following steps:

  1. Candidates must first register themselves and create an account by clicking on the “GPAT 2023 Registrations” tab on the official NTA website for GPAT 2023. The candidates must register only with a valid phone number and email ID as these will be the only source of communication with the examination organising committee during the complete admission process.
  2. After the registration, the candidates must log in with the credentials received and fill in the details required in the GPAT Application Form.
  3. The candidates must also upload the scanned copies of specific documents in the desired format.
  4. Verify all the entered details before proceeding to submit the online application form.
  5. Submit the GPAT application form by paying the full amount of the GPAT application form fee according to the candidate’s category.

Candidates will receive the confirmation for the submission of the GPAT online application form on their registered phone number and email ID.

GPAT 2023 Admit Card

The admit cards for GPAT 2023 will be released on the official NTA website in the first week of April 2023 (tentative). The GPAT admit cards 2023 will be released only to the candidates who have successfully completed the application process. The GPAT 2023 admit card will remain available on the candidate’s portal till the day of examination. Candidates must take the printout of the downloaded GPAT admit card. They must carry the printout of the downloaded admit card and a photo ID card for the verification of identity on the day of examination. In case of failure to bring the admit card and the photo ID card to the examination centre on the examination day, the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

GPAT 2023 Results

GPAT 2023 results will be released in the second week of May 2023 (tentative). To know their scores and the status of qualifying for GPAT 2023, candidates must check their results online on the official website. The qualified candidates will be called for GPAT 2023 counselling.
