GFR Full Form

What is the full form of the GFR?

The full form of GFR is the Glomerular Filtration Rate. It is a measure used to verify how well the kidneys perform. Explicitly, it calculates how much blood goes per minute via the glomeruli. The small filters in the kidneys that remove waste from the blood are glomeruli.

The Glomerulus filtration rate is typically calculated using a mathematical formula wherein the age and gender of an individual are correlated with serum levels of creatinine. The lower the amount of GFRs, the greater the danger to the kidney. It informs the physician about the damage stage of the kidney and allows them to prepare a treatment as needed.

Method to perform the test

The stepwise explanation for the performance of the test is given below.

  1. A sample of blood is required.
  2. The sample of blood is sent to a laboratory. The level of creatinine is tested in the blood sample in the laboratory.
  3. Creatinine is a creatine-derived chemical waste product. Creatine is a chemical that the body produces, especially for muscles that provide energy.
  4. To measure the GFR, the laboratory specialist blends the amount of creatinine in the blood with many other variables.
  5. For kids and adults, various formulas have been used. Most of all, the following are included in the methodology are listed below.
  • Blood creatinine measurement
  • Gender
  • Weight
  • Height
  • Age
  • Ethnicity
