Upwelling is a process in which currents bring deep, cold water to the surface of the ocean. Upwelling is a result of winds and the rotation of the Earth.
Upwelling supports the growth of seaweed and plankton. It does provide food for marine life such as fish, marine mammals, as well as birds. It is also capable of generating some of the world’s most fertile ecosystems.
