There are about 2500-3000 Ganges river dolphins in the wild. Their numbers, a result of poaching and habitat destruction, means they are an endangered species.

 The Ganges river dolphin lives in the Ganges– Brahmaputra–Meghna and Sangu–Karnaphuli river systems in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
