Horticulturists are professionals who work with plant genetics to create new sources of food, such as drought-resistant crops and vegetables with a longer shelf life etc. They will work on the soil and plants, running experiments in the lab. The results gathered in the lab are then used to help farmers and gardeners grow healthier and more robust plants with higher yields, fewer diseases and drought resistance.
