The Indian Parliament is an expression of the faith that the people of India have in the principles of democracy. It was created in 1947. The Parliament in our system has immense powers because it is the representative of the people.
The word ‘parliament’ is derived from the French expression ‘parle’ which means to speak or parley. This term was also used to describe conferences such as those held between the King of France and the Pope in 1245. Gradually, the term began to be applied to the body of persons who gathered to discuss and approve government policies and finances.
