The Mudaliar Commission was an education commission set up with the aim of examining the system of secondary education in India. Its main purpose was to examine the conditions of the secondary education system in the country and suggest ways to improve it.
Submitting its report in August 1963, one of the major recommendations of the commission was that middle or junior secondary or senior basic stage should cover a period of 3 years and a higher secondary stage should cover a period of 4 years.
