Warren Hastings is credited for laying the foundations of the Civil Services in India while it was Charles Cornwallis who reformed and modernized the inner workings of the Civil Services.
For his efforts, Charles Cornwallis is known as the ‘Father of Civil Service in India’. The present civil services of India are mainly based on the pattern of the former Indian Civil Service of British India.
