In small amounts, ozone is not harmful, but in greater amounts it can damage the lungs when inhaled. Even relatively low amounts can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and throat irritation.
Ozone is bad enough to cause chronic respiratory disease such as asthma and may lead to future respiratory infections
Ground-level or “bad” ozone also damages vegetation and ecosystems. It leads to reduced agricultural crop and commercial forest yields, reduced growth and survivability of tree seedlings.
