Why is urban waste disposal a serious problem in India?

Urban waste disposal is a serious problem in India due to the following reasons:

• Concentration of industrial units in and around urban centres gives rise to disposal of industrial wastes

• The dumping of wastes, industrial or otherwise, will render water bodies around urban areas usable.

• Lack of suitable dumping grounds due to high population density

• Inefficient waste management policies on the part of the municipal authorities concerned.
