IIT JEE ADVANCED 2016 – Details, Dates, Eligibility, Pattern

IIT JEE Main 2016 or the Joint Entrance Examination is conducted by CBSE. Students aspiring to get admission in engineering courses appeared for the JEE Mains 2016 in the month of April (both online and offline). This year’s JEE Mains and Advanced are being conducted by IIT Guwahati.

JEE Mains is conducted for admission into NITs and other government engineering colleges except for IITs. It is also a screening test for JEE Advanced. On the basis of JEE Advanced ranks, the students get admission to various IITs.

IIT JEE ADVANCED 2016

IIT JEE Advanced 2016 is going to be held on May 22, 2016. This time 2 lakh students are being allowed to sit for the exam but only 1.5 lakh would be allowed in the upcoming year. About 40 % weightage will be given to board marks and 60 % to JEE Main scores.

Eligibility For JEE Advanced 2016

The eligibility criteria remain the same as that of JEE Mains, though students who have already accepted a seat in any of the IITs or ISM in 2015 will not be allowed to sit for JEE Advanced 2016.

Following are the five criteria that one must fulfil so as to appear in JEE Advanced (Foreign candidates are included) :-

  1. Performance (JEE Main)

The candidates should have ranked in Top 2,00,000 (all categories included) in Paper -1 of JEE Main.

  1. Age Limit

The age of the candidate should be according to the following table :

  1. Number of Attempts

Only two consecutive attempts (NO GAPS ALLOWED BETWEEN 1st and 2nd  ATTEMPT) are allowed for the candidate i.e. candidate appearing in JEE ADVANCED 2016 should be his First Attempt or the second consecutive attempt.

  1. Appearance in class 12th (or Equivalent) Examination
  • A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in all the subjects in either 2015 or 2016.
  • Candidates who appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2015 and wish to re-appear in the same in 2016 (either for improvement or because they failed in one or more subjects), will have to re-appear in all the subjects in 2016.
  • Those who appeared for the first time in their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2014 or earlier are NOT eligible. However, candidates whose Class XII (or equivalent) examination Board results for the academic year 2013-14 were declared after June 2014 are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016.
  1. Earlier Admission in IITs/ISM
  • A candidate should not have already taken admission in an IIT/ISM (irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program).
  • Also, the candidate should not have accepted the IIT/ISM seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past. The candidates whose admission at IITs or ISM was cancelled are also NOT applicable to apply

Question Paper And Analysis

The JEE Advanced 2016 exam will be inclusive of two papers

  • Paper 1
  • Paper 2

JEE Advanced Paper Pattern

  1. Each paper is divided into 3 parts: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  2. Each paper will have a duration of 3 hours each
  3. Both exams will be conducted on May 22, 2016
  4. Paper Timings: Paper 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon and Paper 2 will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm.
  5. The question papers will be available in only two languages – English and Hindi.
  6. This exam is designed to test the comprehension, analytical ability and reasoning skills of students.
  7. Questions will be objective-type i.e. Multiple Choice Type Questions (MCQs) or Numerical Answer Type Questions.

Students appearing for JEE Advanced 2016 may use the exam pattern of  JEE Advanced 2015 for an insight to the question pattern, provided as follows :-

In both the papers, parts 1, 2, and 3 contained 20 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively.

 JEE Advanced Application Form 2016

The shortlisted student can fill the JEE Advanced Application form on dates mentioned below :

Procedure for JEE Advanced – 2016 Application Form:

Steps :

  • Fill the Registration Form.
  • Upload the Scanned documents.
  • Pay the Registration Fees.
  • Chill for a while then start studying.

Documents Required

The documents whose scanned copy are required at the time of JEE Advanced Registration are mentioned below :

1.All Candidates :

  • Class X certificate if the date of birth is mentioned in it OR birth certificate.
  • Class XII (or equivalent examination) certificate (for those who appeared for this examination in 2015).
  • If the name is not the same as in the Class X certificate, gazette notification showing the change of name.
  • Colour photo of Candidate with format rules as follows :
  • Face covering 70-80 % of the whole photo frame.
  • Photo must be taken within the last 6 months.
  • The photo should allow a clear identification of the candidate.
  • Full Signature of Candidate (Scanned Copy)
  • Left – hand thumb impression (Scanned Copy)
  • Full Signature of Candidate (Scanned Copy)

2. OBC – NCL Category :

  • OBC-NCL certificate which is issued on or after June 1, 2015, and conforming to the latest guidelines of the Government of India. For latest guidelines and updates regarding the above, candidates are advised to visit: ncbc.nic.in

3. SC – ST Category :

  • Caste (for SC) or tribe (for ST) certificate

4. PwD Category :

  • Disability certificate issued by a district medical board / competent authority.
  • Class 12 Examination Board (Outside India) :
  • A certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination qualified by the candidates is equivalent to the Class XII examination.

5. DS Category :

  • Certificate issued by a competent authority in the Directorate of Resettlement and Rehabilitation, New Delhi under the Ministry of Defence or the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
