KCET Eligibility Criteria 2023: Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is a state-level entrance test that is scheduled to be held on May 20 and 21, 2023.

Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority.  The candidates who fulfil the KCET 2023 eligibility criteria can apply for the examination, and those who qualify in KCET 2023 exam are eligible for admission in various courses in the state of Karnataka.

KCET Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be a citizen of India to be eligible for admission to government seats.

Eligibility clause code for KCET 2023

The candidates should satisfy anyone the following eligibility criteria of KCET for admission to government seats.

Code A

  • Candidates must have studied in institutions recognised by the government of Karnataka for 7 years between 1st std to 12th std.

Code B

  • The candidates must have studied 11th std, and 12th std in an institution recognised by the government of Karnataka, and his/her parents have studied in Karnataka for 7 years.

Code C

  • The mother tongue of either of the parents must be Kannada, Kodava or Tulu, and at least one of the parents must have resided in Karnataka for 7 years or more. These candidates must write the Kannada test that is conducted by the Karnataka Education Authority.

Code D

  • The candidates who have Kannada, Kodava or Tulu as their mother tongue and who have resided & studied for 7 years between 1st std & 12th std in the disputed Kannada-speaking regions like Akkalkot, Gadhinglaj, South Sholapur, Jath Taluks of Maharashtra or Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Hosadurga Taluks of Kerala State. Such candidates must write the Kannada language test that is conducted by the Karnataka Education Authority.

Code E

  • Either of the parents of the candidate must be employed in the Armed Forces, and he/she should have worked in Karnataka for one year continuously during the tenure of the candidates’ 11th std and 12th std in an institution recognized by the Government of Karnataka.

Code F

  • Son/Daughter of serving defence personnel from Karnataka, who has mentioned his hometown as a place in Karnataka. The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination from an institution in India.

Code G

  • The candidate who has studied in an institution recognized by the government of Karnataka and his/her parents is a defence personnel who has served in the state of Karnataka for a period of one year and was later posted in active/field services. Further, the defence authority has permitted the family of the defence personnel to continue staying in Karnataka.

Code H

  • Either of the parents of the candidate must be ex-servicemen, whose hometown as declared in his/her service records is ‘Karnataka’.

Code I

  • Son/Daughter of an employee of the Union Government of Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking, who may be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms & conditions of his employment wherein the employee has worked in Karnataka for at least one year of the two year period of study of candidates’ PUC / 11th &12th Standard course. Such candidates must have studied in an organisation recognised by the government of Karnataka.

Code J

  • Son/Daughter of working or retired employee of the Union Government or Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking who had declared any place of Karnataka as his home town to the employer wherein he/she had studied in any Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in Karnataka for a minimum period of seven years and was/is liable to be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms and conditions of his employment. Further, the candidate should have passed the qualifying examination from an institution located anywhere in India.

Code K

  • Son/Daughter of Members of Parliament (M.P.) elected from Karnataka. The candidate must have studied in an institution in India.

Code L

  • Son/Daughter of serving/retired employee of All India Service of Karnataka cadre or Karnataka State Government, who is serving or has served outside Karnataka during the period that corresponds to the period when the candidate was studying from 1st standard to 12th std.

Code M

  • Son/Daughter of migrants of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)

Code N

  • The candidates who have studied ten years from Class Ist to Class Xth in Kannada Medium in places outside Karnataka. Such candidates don’t have to appear for Kannada Language Test organised by KEA. Provided the candidates have passed the qualifying examination from any Govt. or Govt. recognised educational institution anywhere in India.

Code O

  • Son/Daughter of working/retired employee in Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) service, whose hometown is a place in Karnataka (as per the service records). Further, the candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination from an institution located anywhere in India.

Candidates have to submit the necessary documents as proof during the document verification process.

Course Wise Eligibility

Course KCET Exam Eligibility Criteria
B.Tech
  • Candidates should have passed 12th standard with a minimum of 45% of marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology/ Biotechnology.
  • English should be one of the compulsory languages.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for SC/ ST is 40%.
B.Arch
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12th with a minimum of 50% of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Candidates must have appeared for JEE Main Paper 2 or NATA.
  •  The minimum qualifying marks in Class 12th should be 45% for SC/ ST.
B.VSc and AH
  • Candidates must have cleared standard 12 exams with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as the major subjects.
  • A practical test will be conducted for B.VSc and AH applicants.
B.Pharma
  • Cleared class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the major subjects.
  • Minimum qualifying marks for General category 45% and for SC/ ST is 40%.

  • Candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology (PCMB) in class 12.
  • Candidates seeking admission through Agriculture Quota will have to undergo a practice test. The result of the test will have 50% weightage in the final admission process.

Hyderabad-Karnataka Region Candidates

The candidates belonging to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region are eligible to attempt KCET. These candidates have a separate merit list. The Hyderabad-Karnataka region includes places like Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Gulbarga and Bellary.

The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination with the following subjects.
