VIT is also known as Vellore Engineering College was founded in July 1984 by Dr G Viswanathan, a former parliamentarian and a Minister in the government of Tamil Nadu. Fests
Gravitas and Riviera are the two fests organized by Vellore Institute of technology every year.
VIT was the first Engineering college in India to be awarded International Organization for Standardization 9002 certificate for three years by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Netherlands for the management of the cultural festival ‘Riviera’ in 2011.
Ranking
VIT has been ranked among the top 1% private engineering college in India and 13th overall best university ahead of many government-run colleges in India, by National Institutional Ranking Framework published by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in April 2016.
