The part of the vertebrate skeleton that consists of the bones supporting the appendages is known as the appendicular skeleton. It contains 126 bones. The appendicular skeleton comprises the skeletal bones of the limbs and the shoulder and pelvic girdles.
The appendicular skeleton’s primary purposes are to allow mobility and provide the shape of limbs, arms and legs. The bones also influence mineral homeostasis in the appendicular skeleton.
