How Many Bones Does the Human Face Have?

The 22 bones that comprise the human skull are divided into two sets: the cranial and the face. There are eight cranial bones. They form the skull, the protective solid outer layer. The front section of the skull is made of 14 bone components that form the facial region. The face skeleton consists of the bones that connect to form a part of the skull.

The facial skeleton consists of 14 bones with different anatomic structures and embryological formations (2 unpaired and 6 paired). These bones comprise the paired nasal bones, inferior nasal conchae, palatine bones, maxillae, zygomatic bones, lacrimal bones, and the unpaired mandible and vomer.
