Amoeba are eukaryotic entities typically consisting of single-cells. Apart from occurring in Protozoans, they also occur in algae, fungi and other animals; they cannot be formed under one taxonomic category. They have an intrinsic characteristic of modifying their form/shapes mainly by enlarging and pulling back pseudopods.
Amoeba, like other eukaryotic entities, have some salient features. The cellular contents and cytoplasm of such entities are girdled in the cell membrane. The DNA of amoeba is encased in a central cellular compartment known as the nucleus. Amoeba contains special formations known as organelles. These structures carry out a set of functions at the cellular level which is inclusive of transportation of proteins and production of energy.
