Home Science is a dynamic subject that mainly deals with natural resources, management, clothing and textile management, nutrition, home management, health and hygiene, ethics and more. Overall, Home Science is a Science of management that includes managing resources efficiently.
Home Science is an interdisciplinary field that draws from the strengths of science and arts courses. NIOS secondary course syllabus for group B – Home Science has been designed to help students to learn the skills, resources and motivation to a successful career.
Home Science is an art as well as science. In this syllabus, students learn about food, nutrition, clothing, resources, management, external environment, human development and communication and extension.
The entire course has been divided into two units and nine chapters, with self-assessment and practicals provided at the end of each chapter. The total duration of the lesson plan is for 240 hours, which has been distributed according to the topics and subtopics. Apart from theory, 60 hours have been allotted for practical work.
