Answer: The Gupta Dynasty has played a major part in India’s cultural history. They were the followers of Vedic Religion.

Kalidasa, who wrote the play Abhigyan Shakuntalam and the epic Raghuvansham; Shudraka, who wrote the play Mrichchkatikam; Vishakhadatta, who wrote the play Mudrarakshasa; and the renowned koshkar Amar Singh were all from the Gupta period.

The epics Ramayana and Mahabharata were composed into their present form in the same period.

Q4. Give a brief description of the Rashtrakuta Dynasty.

Answer: Dantidurga founded the Rashtrakuta Dynasty in 736 AD. The capital was Nasik with a total of 14 kings in the dynasty.

The famous Kailashnath temple of Ellora was built by Krishna-I. Govinda III, who was the fifth ruler of the dynasty, expanded the Rashtrakuta empire from the region of Malwa to the region of Kanchi.

Amoghvarsha, who was the sixth ruler, reigned for around 64 years. The capital was changed to Manyakhet.

During the rule of Krishna III, who was the twelfth ruler of the dynasty, a huge conflict began between the Cholas and the Rashtrakutas. The Rashtrakutas were defeated by the Chalukyas of Kalyani.

Q5. Write a short note on Chola administration.

Answer: The Chola administration used the concept of Gram Panchayats.

The entire kingdom was categorized into six provinces, known as the Mandalams.

The subunit of Mandalam was Kottam and that of Kottam was Nadu.

A group of Nadu was called Nattar and an assembly of towns was known as Nagartar.

Each year, representatives of the village were appointed.

The King used to undertake one-sixth of the produce of the land as the land revenue. The public could pay this lagan in the form of gold coins or grains. These gold coins were of 16 ounces and were known as Kasu.

A huge naval force was possessed by this administration.

Q6. What do you know about the Pallava dynasty?

Answer: The present-day Madras, Arcot, Trichinapalli and Tanjore were back then ruled by the rulers of the Pallava Dynasty.

As per the inscriptions, we find the first Pallava king as Vishnugopa from Kanchi. His throne was next ascended by Simhavishnu.

One of the rulers of this dynasty, Mahendraverman, was a renowned architect. He established lots of temples of carved stones.

Chalunkya king Pulakeshin II defeated Mahendraverman in 610 AD. Narsimha Verman was the heir of Mahendraverman. He defeated Pulkeshin II.

The Pallava rulers had built a town by the name Mamallapuram, or Mahabalipuram. They also had established temples in Kanchi.
