IBPS Exam Eligibility

When we talk about bank exams in India, we need to meet a certain level of eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria would include the educational qualification, age limit, nationality, enrollment fee etc. for different posts in Banks like Probationary Officer (PO), Clerk, Specialist Officer (SO), RRB there are different eligibility criteria that the aspirants need to fit in. if the candidate does not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she is not fit to sit for the bank exams. Moreover, in any case, they won’t be permitted to sit for it.

Any person even thinking to sit for bank exams should know the eligibility criteria beforehand so that they can confirm filling the application form followed by the registration process. IBPS keeps of reviewing and adding required changes in the eligibility criteria, here we’ve jotted down all the requirements you should be fulfilling as per the 2016 norms.

IBPS Eligibility related to Citizenship/Nationality

All the candidates aspiring for any of the bank exams must definitely fit into the nationality eligibility criteria. These criteria are set by the Government of India and no relaxation for any candidate would be considered here.

The candidate must be either of the following:

  • Indian citizen
  • Nepal subject
  • Bhutan subject
  • Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intent to settle permanently in India.
  • A person of Indian origin but who has shifted from Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Pakistan, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Vietnam, and Zaire; with the intentions of abidingly settling in India.

If the person is not “Indian Citizen” and belongs to any of the other categories, the must provide a certificate in the favor of their eligibility issued by the Government of India.    

Basic education and age eligibility for all IBPS Exams

  • The candidate must have a graduation degree.
  • Basics in computer knowledge, as all baking processes are done online and should have proficiency in local language.
  • If candidate is applying for higher officer posts then relevant experience and professional qualification is needed.

Aspirants in final year of their degree or waiting for their results are not eligible to sit for exams.

Eligibility for IBPS PO

Age criteria

The candidate should be between 20-30 years by the 1 July, 2017.

  • Candidate must be a graduate from any recognized institution or university recognized by Central Government.
  • Must have scored at least 50% in their graduation.
  • Participants are supposed to fill in their marks obtained in the IBPS PO online form

Eligibility for IBPS Clerk

Age criteria

  • The candidate should be between 20-28 years by the 1 August, 2017.

Educational qualification for IBPS Clerk

  • Candidate must be a graduate from any recognized institution or university recognized by Central Government.
  • Must have scored at least 50% in their graduation.
  • Candidates must have basic computer operating knowledge, as most of the bank procedures are done online only.
  • Also candidate must have Diploma/Certificate/Degree in Computer Language/Operations; should have studied computer Technology as a subject at High School/Graduation Level.

Eligibility for IBPS Specialist Officer (SO)

Age criteria

The candidate should be between 20-30 years by the 1 November, 2017.

Officer Scale-I

  • Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution. Preference for the candidates having degree in: Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Veterinary Science, Pisciculture, Agricultural Engineering, Information Technology, Agricultural Marketing and Corporation, Economics and Accountancy
  • Expertise in local language as directed by participating RRBs
  • Knowledge in Computer Skills

Officer Scale-II (General Banking Officer):

  • Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution. Minimum marks aggregate should be 50%. Preference for the candidates having degree in: Finance, Banking, Marketing, Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Veterinary Science, Pisciculture, Agricultural Engineering, Information Technology, Economics and Accountancy, Law, Management.
  • Expertise in local language as directed by participating RRBs
  • Knowledge in Computer Skills

Experience Needed

  • 2 years in bank as an Officer; or
  • Financial Institution
  • Officer Scale-III

Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution. Minimum marks aggregate should be 50%. Preference for the candidates having degree in: Finance, Banking, Marketing, Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Veterinary Science, Pisciculture, Agricultural Engineering, Information Technology, Economics and Accountancy, Law, Management.

Experience Needed

  • 5 years at least as an Officer in Bank; or
  • Financial Institution
