Difference Between Fog and Mist

One must understand the major difference between fog and mist. These terms are commonly mistaken for one and the other. The major differences between one and the other are that fog is much thicker and denser than mist. They both consist of clouds that are made of condensed water vapour. It is sometimes indistinguishable between one and the other. Fog has a much greater impact on the visibility of the eye when compared to mist.

Mist is simply the atmospheric phenomenon formed by tiny vapours suspended in the atmosphere on the surface of the Earth, which causes errors in visibility. It is much lighter when compared to Fog which is much thicker and denser. Mist also lasts for a shorter duration as compared to Fog.
