Humerus, which is also known as the upper arm bone, is located between the shoulder joint and the elbow joint. It is considered the longest bone of the upper body of a human being. The humerus bone provides support to the arm. It also helps in various movements of the arm and shoulder.
Parts of the Humerus Bone
Head: It is round in shape and thus interacts with the glenoid cavity of scapula (shoulder blade) to form the shoulder joint.
Tubercles: This acts as the point of attachment for the muscles of the shoulder joint.
Surgical neck: Located at the base of the proximal humerus.
Epicondyles: Present at the lower end of the humerus; these are bony protrusions of the humerus.
Trochlea: Present in the lower part of the humerus; it interacts with the ulna bone in the lower arm.
Capitulum: This part of the humerus bone interacts with the radius bone of the lower arm
