Difference Between Vaporization and Evaporation

However, one similarity they have is that during vaporisation and evaporation, the molecules of liquids escape into a gaseous state. Vaporisation and Evaporation are the processes that are nothing but a phase transition of a substance from a solid or liquid state to gas. They are often used interchangeably, but very few know the exact difference between them. So to make things clear, here are some of the significant differences between evaporation and vaporisation.

Vaporisation is defined as the phase transition of a compound or an element that occurs during the boiling or sublimation process. Evaporation is nothing but a type of vaporisation which mostly occurs at temperatures below the boiling point.
Vaporisation can change the state of matter from a solid or liquid to a gas. During evaporation, the liquid state of matter is turned directly into a gas.
Depending on the process, a heat source may or may not be required. The process does not require the use of a heat source.
During vaporisation, all of the water can turn into gas. As for evaporation, only the top level of water is turned into gas.
When vaporisation occurs, molecules could come from below the surface when the liquid is boiling. During evaporation, the molecules vaporise only from the surface of the liquid.
