Is basaltic an explosive lava?

No, volcanoes with basaltic lavas are not explosive. They are characterised by low explosivity. They become explosive if somehow water gets into the vent. Shield volcanoes have basaltic lava. They are the largest of all the volcanoes on the earth. The Hawaiian volcanoes are the most famous examples.
