Eutrophication potential (EP) is defined as the potential to cause over-fertilisation of water. and soil, which can result in increased growth of biomass.

Eutrophication is caused by an overabundance of nitrogen and phosphorus. In this process Algae feeds on the nutrients, growing, spreading and turning the water green.
