The Aitchison Commission of 1886 made the following recommendations with regards to civil service:
- The maximum age of entry in Civil Service was fixed at 23
- Statutory Civil Services was to be abolished
- Simultaneous examinations in England and India were to be stopped,
- Certain percentage of posts in the imperial civil service should be filled by promotion of the members of provincial civil service.
