Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was the first engineer of India. His birthday, September 15 is celebrated as Engineer’s Day in India every year. He was a Bharat Ratna Awardee and had set up schools & engineering institutions, invented block irrigation, and had built the KRS reservoir.
He is believed to be the greatest Indian civil engineer and was commonly known as Sir MV, after being knighted by the British.
