Why is algae bloom bad?

Under current conditions, growth of algae is welcome, but if it grows out of control – an event known as algae bloom – It will produce toxins that can kill fish, mammals and birds, and may cause human illness or even death in extreme cases.

The overgrowth of algae consumes oxygen and blocks sunlight from underwater plants, which ultimately can lead to deterioration of a marine environment.
