Why is the leatherback turtle going extinct?

The leatherback turtle is facing extinction because of Extensive turtle and egg harvest and bycatch in fishing gear. Their numbers in the Asian Pacific side are on a rapid decline due to a culture of legal egg collection that is severely depleting their numbers.
