Class 12 preparations are always a critical aspect, and preparing methodology is always a matter of concern. It’s the final year of schooling education, and the whole future is decided based on your final year percentage. When it comes to admissions in reputed colleges, or regarding job interviews, ICSE/CBSE Class 12 percentage is a major requirement and cannot be overlooked. The final year of schooling decides your overall performance in your pre-university span and acts as a base to shape your future career.
ICSE Class 12 Chemistry is a subject which involves a lot of named reactions, concepts, and not to forget, the structures and diagrammatic explanation. Therefore, Preparation, according to the marking scheme, could help score well and have a good practice and idea of writing examination and output better result.
ICSE Class 12th Chemistry consists of 10 units, and the marks distribution is in the following manner. Each unit is allotted a particular number of marks, and the whole paper is of 70 marks.
Weightage to Content/Subject Units
Unit | Title | Marks Distribution by Parts |
1 | Solutions | Physical Chemistry 25 Marks |
2 | Electrochemistry | |
3 | Chemical Kinetics | |
4 | d-and-f-Block Elements | Inorganic Chemistry 14 Marks |
5 | Coordination Compounds
6 | Haloalkanes and Haloarenes | Organic Chemistry 31 Marks |
7 | Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers
8 | Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic acids
9 | Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen
10 | Â Biomolecules | |
Total Marks | 70 |
Mark distribution is the major aspect which gives you an overall idea about the weightage of each and every unit. Apart from this, you can also to refer Previous Years ISC Chemistry Question Papers, maximum last five years. By this, you get to know which question has been asked how many times, and what its marks allocations are.
The unit which carries maximum marks is Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic acids. This unit consists of Aldehydes and Ketones: Nomenclature, nature of carbonyl group, methods of preparation, physical and chemical properties, mechanism of nucleophilic addition, the reactivity of alpha hydrogen in aldehydes: uses. Carboxylic Acids: Nomenclature, acidic nature, methods of preparation, physical and chemical properties; uses.
The next unit after Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic acids is the Solutions. This is the first unit of the syllabus and consists of simple and easy to remember concepts like Types of solutions, expression of concentration of solutions of solids in liquids, solubility of gases in liquids, solid solutions, colligative properties – relative lowering of vapour pressure, Raoult’s law, elevation of boiling point, depression of freezing point, osmotic pressure, determination of molecular masses using colligative properties, abnormal molecular mass, Van’t Hoff factor.
There are also other eight units apart from these two. But these units are the one which involves higher weightage and concentration. Since they carry the maximum marks which signify that it consists of topics which are crucial and not avoidable.
ISC Class 12 Chemistry consists of 10 units, but it’s not that difficult to prepare since it involves so many interesting topics and real-life phenomenon which makes it even more readable and realistic. For more information, visit BYJU’S website.
