How to Prepare and Tackle JEE Chemistry Questions

In JEE, Chemistry is usually divided into three parts: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry. All three parts are very important for JEE. Questions are asked from all these parts and therefore students should be familiar with all the concepts from the same. However, Chemistry is one of the most scoring subjects in JEE and if we look at the previous year papers this section also takes the least amount of time to solve. Questions are mostly direct and theory-based.Β

Candidates have a good chance to score good marks in this section and secure higher ranks in the exam. To help students do just that, we shall discuss a few useful tips that can help each student master JEE Chemistry concepts and tackle questions with ease during the exam.

  • Do not Skip any Parts

Do not skip any chapters from Organic, Inorganic, or Physical Chemistry. Questions from every chapter have been asked at least once in JEE in the previous years. Divide your time and dedicate equal hours to all three parts. If you find any difficulty in understanding a reaction mechanism or equation, spend extra time on it. But, do not feel overconfident at any point, and make sure you study everything.

  • Extra time to be spent on Inorganic Chemistry

As we have mentioned earlier, we do not advise you to skip any chapter from Chemistry. But, you can always spend extra time on the high-scoring chapters. Periodic table, s and p-block elements, transition elements from Inorganic Chemistry carry more marks and are frequently asked in JEE. For such chapters, allot extra time on your time table and study frequently.

  • Follow the Standard Books

NCERT is the standard book that has to be followed for your JEE preparation, before referring to other books. Once you have thoroughly completed NCERT, refer to other standard books by recommended authors.Β

List of books that can be referred for Chemistry preparation:

  1. Organic Chemistry: O.P Tandon
  2. Inorganic Chemistry: J.D Lee
  3. Physical Chemistry: Atkin’s
  • Utilise Online Platforms

E-learning is growing at a fast pace in recent years and most of the students are adapting towards this change. The good thing about online learning is that you can study at any time and any place. Online JEE coaching classes like BYJU’S contains free video tutorials of the concepts that are further explained in a simple and interesting manner. Students can refer to these tutorials if they are having a hard time understanding particular concepts from the textbooks.

We also provide free mock tests and access to previous year question papers which is the most effective tool for your JEE preparation. Mock tests help you to get familiar with the JEE pattern and time management. Therefore, attempt any mock test that you find online and make the best use of e-learning.

  • Memorise all the Formulas

It is not advisable to memorise the concepts, rather you to understand them. But, with formulas, you may have to memorise it frequently. To remember better, write the formulas on sticky notes and stick them on your study table or cupboard where you can visually access it every day. Maintain a separate notebook for the formulas and write down every formula from Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in it. Keep revising in your free time until you get a stronghold of it.
