West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination also known as WBJEE is a competitive engineering entrance exam which is conducted by WBJEEB (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board). WBJEEB was founded in the year 1962 primarily to conduct Common Entrance Examinations for Undergraduate Level Engineering Courses in the state of West Bengal. The exam was conducted in a pen and paper based format in different exam centers across the state of West Bengal. Around 1.27 lakh candidates appeared for WBJEE 2018 for the 34,125 available seats. WBJEE was conducted in two shifts, paper 1 and paper 2. Paper 1 which was Mathematics exam took place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and Paper 2 which was Chemistry and Physics combined were held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The time duration for each paper was 2 hours.
Overall Analysis

The exam pattern of WBJEE was a little different from the other engineering entrance exam pattern. There were 3 types of question categories which are mentioned in the points below.
- Category I – The questions in this category had a single correct answer. 50 questions were asked in Mathematics paper and 30 each in Chemistry and Physics. For every correct answer, 1 marks were awarded and -¼ is deducted for every incorrect answer.
- Category II – These questions also had a single correct answer, and a +2 and -½ marking scheme. 15 questions were asked in Mathematics paper and 5 each was asked in Chemistry and Physics Paper.
- Category III – These questions had more than one correct options. 10 questions were asked from the Mathematics section and 5 questions each was asked in the Chemistry and Physics section.
WBJEE 2018 Mathematics Paper Review
The Mathematics paper had 75 questions with a total of 100 marks. According to most students and teachers, the WBJEE 2018 Maths paper was a bit tougher than previous year question paper. Section A
The questions in this section were of moderate level. 50 questions were asked in this section carrying 1 mark each. Some questions were conceptual but students found Section A of Mathematics paper very easy.
Section B
According to teachers, the questions in Section B were a little tough and lengthy. 15 questions were asked from this section carrying 2 marks each. Most questions in this section were application based.
Section C
The questions in this section were very easy to solve. 10 questions were asked in this section with 2 marks each.
WBJEE 2018 Physics and Chemistry Paper Review
Compared to Maths paper, physics and chemistry papers were a lot easier. There were total 40 questions in chemistry and a total of 40 in physics. The total marks were 100. This section was filled with both difficult and easy questions. Overall the difficulty level of the physics and chemistry paper was moderate to high.
