International Assessments for Indian Schools Mathematics exam is a diagnostic assessment conducted for students to develop their mathematical skills and computing ability. The exam helps the students use mathematical concepts in day-to-day activities and apply them practically wherever possible. Calculators will not be permitted for students taking introductory papers. Formal algebra and geometry will not be tested on the students. The exam focuses on topics, such as patterns, structures, puzzles, and problem-solving involving the spatial arrangement of shapes. Higher-level students are permitted to use calculators even during exams and be tested in formal geometry and algebra.

About IAIS

International Assessments for Indian Schools (IAIS) is a leading international student assessment service that provides an objective, in-depth, external assessment of student skills in key learning areas that are important for success in school and beyond. International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is better known as International Assessments for Indian Schools (IAIS) in India. It has a partnership between Macmillan Education and EEA. IAIS is a diagnostic assessment which brings to light the strengths and weaknesses of a student in the four core subject areas of English, Science, Mathematics and Computer Skills. This diagnostic assessment is benchmarked against global standards of evaluation.

IAIS Mathematics Eligibility Criteria

Every olympiad exam has some eligibility standards based on its rules and regulations. Listed below are the eligibility criteria for the IAIS Mathematics test.

• Only students who belong to participating schools can take part in the mathematics exam.
• Individual participation is not allowed in the IAIS examination.
• The candidate must be from a participating school that should be affiliated with either ICSE, CBSE, or State Board.
• The candidate should be of any Classes 3 to 12.

IAIS Registration Process

The registration process for the IAIS Mathematics examination is similar to that of other exams. One can fill out the form from the official Macmillan website. Individual participation is not permitted or encouraged by ICAS/IAIS, and students must take the exam through their schools. The steps to apply for the IAIS Mathematics exam are outlined below.

For Educational Institutions

• Check out the official website.
• On the Macmillan website, one can find contact information for the ICAS or IAIS assessment.
• The authorities can contact them and ask for the school enrollment and student registration forms.
• One must duly fill out the school enrollment form completely, including the school name, address, and contact information.
• Schools must provide students with a student registration form on which they can fill out the information, such as their name, class, exams, and contact information.
• Later the schools can collect completed registration forms and payment from all students, depending on the number of exams the student is taking.
• Scan the obtained documents and email Macmillan soft copies of the school and student registration forms.
• The required amount of registration fees must be paid to Macmillan Education

For Individuals

ICAS/IAIS does not allow or encourage individual participation and requires students to take the exam through their school (if their school is registered).

Registration or Examination Fees

Each school will take a certain amount of exam fees as per the conducting authority’s decision. Coordination teachers can collect fees based on the number of exams each student is taking and then pay the entire amount when Macmillan sends a representative to the school. The fee is non-refundable, which means that once paid, it cannot be refunded or transferred to another exam.

Syllabus

The syllabus for the exam is mainly based on the major academic boards, such as CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. The students studying in grades 3 to 12 can participate in the contest. The difficulty and the concepts for each area vary for each class depending on their academic curriculum. The main subject areas where students are tested are given below.

Exam Pattern

IAIS Mathematics has two types of questions. They are described below.

• Multiple-choice questions
• Free-response questions
• No negative marks for incorrect answers.

Details of Exam Pattern

• The Assessments consist of a range of multiple-choice and free-response questions.
• For the multiple-choice questions, students will have to choose the correct answer from the four possible options.
• For the free-response questions, students will have to write the answers in the boxes provided.
• Each question carries one mark.
• The total score is calculated by the number of correct answers.
• No marks are deducted for incorrect answers.
• Papers are ordered from the easiest questions to the most difficult questions.
• The questions towards the end of the paper are designed to provide an opportunity for the ablest students to demonstrate a high level of skill.
• The questions are carefully graded to provide a wide range of student abilities using contexts that stimulate students’ interest and engage their attention.
• Students at all levels of competency stand to benefit from participation in the diagnostic assessments.

Different Sets of Papers

IAIS Maths questions require students to make sense of mathematical concepts in everyday situations. Content varies across the papers to ensure they are suitable for various classes of students.

Papers Introductory, A, B, C, D and E

The introductory papers are for Classes 3 to 7.

• These papers focus on pattern, structure, and puzzles.
• Formal geometry is not tested (except for a few items in Paper E).
• There is also an emphasis on spatial abilities.
• Calculators are not allowed.

Papers: F, G, H, I, J

The papers are for Classes 8 to 12.

• Formal algebra is put to the test. Students are expected to be familiar with certain algebra conventions.
• It tests formal geometry.
• Students are expected to know some geometry conventions.
• Calculators can be used.

Exam Duration

The exam duration varies from one class to another. The exam duration for various classes is described below.

IAIS Admit Card

Macmillan Education India distributes the admit cards for the IAIS Mathematics Exam to students through their schools. After the school has completed its registration process and paid the registration fees to Macmillan Education, admit cards are issued in the names of the students.

After the registration process is completed, admit cards/hall tickets will be delivered to the institutions/schools within three weeks. One must complete the registration process well in advance of the exam date.

The IAIS admit card contains the following information

• Student’s name
• Class and section of the student
• School name
• Registration number/ Roll number
• Exam date and time
• Name of the exam
• School and city

Note

After receiving their admit cards from the school authority, students must inspect them for any discrepancies. Students are asked to contact their school coordinator and request that the error be corrected or that a new admit card be issued if there is an error or the student loses their admit card. Students must bring a hard copy of their IAIS Mathematics admit card, as well as their school ID card, to the examination hall for verification. Students who do not have an admit card will not be able to take the exam.

IAIS Mathematics Admit Card Instructions

Students should follow the following instructions after receiving their International Assessment for Indian Schools admit card:

• Students must arrive at their designated exam centres 30 minutes in advance of the exams.
• Students are permitted to enter the hall 15 minutes before the exam begins. Specifically to fill out the basic information on OMR sheets.
• Students will not be permitted to enter the examination hall until 10 minutes after the exam has begun.
• Students will not be given additional time to complete the exam.
• The student may leave the exam centre only when their exam is finished.

IAIS Mathematics Result

The Macmillan Education official website will update the IAIS Mathematics result dates. The steps for checking the results are listed below.

• Check out the official website.
• Depending on the needs, select either the school results or the student report.
• Enter the necessary information. To access online reports, the school must enter the 8-digit school code and password.
• To access online reports, candidates must enter their 10-digit TAP-ID and PIN during student registration.
• To obtain the school code and password, as well as the TAP-ID and PIN, contact the nearest Macmillan office or the ICAS helpdesk.
• Log in to ICAS before downloading the report.

The result is given in two reports

The results of IAIS are provided in the form of a diagnostic report. Macmillan offers two kinds of reports:

• A school report: This report compares the performance of other schools’ averages in the region and each student’s performance to the school average.
• A student report: This report describes how the candidate has performed in each skill area and compares it to the school average.
