The IEO (International English Olympiad) test is held every year to enable students in grades 1 to 12 to measure themselves and determine their level of comprehension and proficiency in the English language. English is on the verge of becoming the universal language of communication. As a result, efficiency in the English language aids in achieving better success. The IEO programme is designed to assess a student’s basic English abilities. Its goal is to help students improve their English language potential by asking them a range of questions. All of SOF’s question papers are categorised according to their difficulty level. The IEO syllabus is the same from grade to grade, although the level of difficulty of the questions varies. Here, we discuss the IEO Class 5 syllabus in detail.

IEO Syllabus for Class 5

Total number of questions – 50
Time – 1 hour

The syllabus for IEO Class 5 is divided into four sections, each of which includes the topics listed below.

Section 1	Spellings, Idioms, Collocations, Synonyms, Homonyms & homophones, Pronouns, Nouns, Antonyms, Phrasal Verbs and Verbs, Adverbs, Articles, Adjectives, Conjunctions, Prepositions, Punctuation, Active and Passive Voice, Reported Speech, and Tenses, etc.
Section 2	Search for and retrieve information from various text types, such as Messages, Letters, News headlines, etc., understand the information given in Timetables, Messages, News reports, etc., acquire a broad understanding and look for particular information in short texts like menu card dialogues, messages, etc.
Section 3	Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions, such as Refusals, Apologies, Requests, etc. and the use of conjunctions.
Section 4	Higher-order thinking questions include the syllabus as per the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd sections.

The entrance exam will be organised into four sections, as mentioned below:

Section I: Word and Structure Knowledge
Section II: Reading
Section III: Spoken and Written Expression
Section IV: Achievers section
35 questions will be asked in the question paper of class I to class IV.
However, the question paper for class V to class X will contain 50 questions in total.

Frequently Asked Questions on IEO Class 5 Syllabus

Who is eligible to compete in the Olympiads?

Students in grades 1 through 12 are able to participate in the first-level Olympiads. There are no further eligibility requirements, such as minimum grades.

What is the IEO Olympiad syllabus?

The Olympiad follows the syllabus provided by the various state boards, including ICSE and CBSE.

What are the advantages of taking Olympiad examinations for a student?

Olympiad competitors are ranked based on their performance. As a result, after completing the first level of the exam, students may assess themselves academically on four levels: inside the school, at the local level, at the state level, and, most importantly, at the international level.

What are the awards offered to the International English Olympiad winners?

Second-level winners in Classes 3–12 will be recognised at the International, Zonal, and Class topper levels.

Prizes will be awarded to Class 1 and Class 2 winners.
Each winner will only be able to receive one examination reward.
Only the highest level prize will be awarded to the winners.
The top three international rank holders will receive prizes depending on their international placements.
The rank holders will receive zonal ranking prizes and will receive the class award of a Zonal award winner
