The IEO (International English Olympiad) test is held every year to enable students in grades 1 to 12 to measure themselves and determine their level of comprehension and proficiency in the English language. The IEO programme is designed to assess a student’s basic English abilities. Its goal is to help students improve their English language potential by asking them a range of questions. All of SOF’s question papers are categorised according to their difficulty level. The IEO syllabus is the same from grade to grade, although the level of difficulty of the questions varies. IEO Syllabus for Class 5

  • Total number of questions – 50
  • Time – 1 hour

The syllabus for IEO Class 5 is divided into four sections, each of which includes the topics listed below.

Section 1 Spellings, Idioms, Collocations, Synonyms, Homonyms & homophones, Pronouns, Nouns, Antonyms, Phrasal Verbs and Verbs, Adverbs, Articles, Adjectives, Conjunctions, Prepositions, Punctuation, Active and Passive Voice, Reported Speech, and Tenses, etc.
Section 2 Search for and retrieve information from various text types, such as Messages, Letters, News headlines, etc., understand the information given in Timetables, Messages, News reports, etc., acquire a broad understanding and look for particular information in short texts like menu card dialogues, messages, etc.
Section 3 Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions, such as Refusals, Apologies, Requests, etc. and the use of conjunctions.
Section 4 Higher-order thinking questions include the syllabus as per the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sections.

The entrance exam will be organised into four sections, as mentioned below:

  • Section I: Word and Structure Knowledge
  • Section II: Reading
  • Section III: Spoken and Written Expression
  • Section IV: Achievers section
  • 35 questions will be asked in the question paper of class I to class IV.
  • However, the question paper for class V to class X will contain 50 questions in total.
