NSO Exam Pattern 2022-23

The National Science Olympiad (NSO) is a science competition for students in grades 1 to 12. It is organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) to identify and promote young scientists, technologists, and IT talent in secondary schools. Students in grades 1 to 12 are eligible to take the NSO at the first level.

The top 5% of students from each class who sit for the 1st level test, state top 10 rank holders class-wise, and class toppers from each participating school where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam and obtain 75% qualifying marks, qualify for the 2nd level of NSO exam. Frequently Asked Questions on NSO Exam Pattern 2022-2023

How many levels of examination are there?

There are two levels of the examination, namely level 1 and level 2. Students studying in grades 1 and 2 will have only level 1 examination.

Is it possible for a school to apply for NSO test 2022-23 with less than 10 students?

No, SOF does not accept applications from schools with fewer than ten students.

How can students progress to NSO Level 2?

Students in grades 3 to 12 take part in level 2. The qualifying for the second round are as follows:
The top 5% of students in each class take the first-level test. If there is a tie, the marks from each section will be given equal weight. Each part is assigned a certain amount of weight. In each class and zone, the top 25 rank holders are recognised. The class topper is determined when at least 10 students from a class take the test and score 50% or better. The top rank holder will qualify for the second level, regardless of section, if registration is received by section.

No, there is no negative marking in the NSO exam 2022-23.
