Q1. Define the word “Nationalism”?

Answer: The word Nationalism implies the feeling of love, devotion, sacrifice and patriotism towards the nation which we belong to.

In western culture, nationalism is in the form of state. But in India, nationalism is an immense devotion towards the country.

Q2. How did the Britishers exploit economically the Indian Business and Economy?

Answer: Britishers exploited and damaged the cotton industries of India. They bought raw materials at very cheap prices and used to send them to Liverpool and Manchester Britain.

Clothes were manufactured there and then sent to India. Here they were sold at expensive rates. This completely damaged the Textile industry of India.

The EIC (East India Company) wanted India to remain an agricultural country so that they could get continuous supply of the raw materials and foster industrialization in England.

The expenditure of the British government was handled by India through the taxes that Indians used to pay. India rapidly lost all its wealth.

Answer: The revolt of 1857 gained speed and spread over to various parts of the country including Rajasthan. Soldiers in places like Neemach, Jhalawar, Nasirabad, Kota, Tonk, etc., were highly determined to bring a stop to British rule. But, as there was lack of a required leadership, the British overcame and curbed the revolt of 1857 by using its military.

Answer: The freedom fight of 1857 was tremendous in its power and it shook the foundation of the Britishers.

Mangal Pandey was one of the prime revolutionaries in this revolt. Bahadur Shah Zafar left the movement of 12th May 1857. Support to the revolutionaries was given by Nana Saheb of Kanpur, Kunwar Singh of Bihar, Azimullah and Tatya Tope, Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, Ranga Ji Babu Gupte from South India, Begum Hazrat Mahal from Awadh and samants of Mewar.

Khushal Singh provided military help. The property of a British officer was robbed by Thakur of Kothariy Jodh Singh. People like Mehrab Khan, Jaidayal, Ratan Lai, Jai Lai, etc. from Rajasthan too played a crucial role in the freedom fight.
