One of the fundamental chapters that kids learn about in their primary classes is a noun. And as they go to higher classes, they are taught the different types of nouns. Apart from proper nouns, common nouns, collective nouns, abstract nouns, there’s another kind of noun that most kids don’t know about. Concrete nouns include every type of noun except abstract nouns. With the help of the concrete nouns worksheet available at our BYJU’S website, the children can develop their basic understanding of concrete nouns.

What are Concrete Nouns?
In layman’s words, the term concrete means things that can be touched, seen, and felt. So concrete nouns are those nouns that can be felt by all the five senses, i.e. all the concrete nouns are tangible in nature. Concrete nouns include all the different types of nouns such as proper nouns, common nouns, collective nouns, countable nouns and uncountable nouns except the abstract nouns. The reason abstract nouns are not included in concrete nouns is that abstract nouns are not tangible and can’t be perceived by all the five senses. For example, “The Statue of Liberty is in New York City”. Even though the Statue of Liberty and New York City are proper nouns yet they fall under concrete nouns as they can be touched and perceived by the other senses. BYJU’S offers several concrete noun sentences that parents, as well as children, can easily access and download.
Difference between Concrete and Abstract Nouns?
As the students learn about the different types of nouns, often the teachers ask questions to check how much they have understood the concepts. So one of the favourite questions that teachers ask in the case of concrete nouns is how are concrete nouns different from abstract nouns. The main and primary difference between abstract and concrete nouns is that concrete nouns are tangible in nature, i.e. can be touched and perceived by the other senses, whereas abstract nouns mainly deal with emotions, ideas, states rather than a specific object. If put in simpler terms, concrete nouns can be touched, seen, felt, whereas abstract nouns can not be. For example, “The boy is going to school.”, here both the boy and the school are concrete nouns, whereas in the sentence “Kindness is a good quality”, kindness is an abstract noun.
