There are over 360 species of roses identified till date. All roses are flowering plants which belong to the Genus Rosa.

Almost all species of roses have multiple sets of soft petals, with thorns adorning the stems. Fossil evidence suggests that roses have been around for nearly 35 million years. Roses come in various colours, hence, most are used for ornamental purposes as well as for landscaping purposes. Roses have also been used to produce perfumes as well as for utilitarian purposes – such as slope stabilization.
