History of Neuroscience

Knowledge about the nervous system dates back to the Ancient Egyptians, where manuscripts indicated that they had an idea about brain damage. Primitive surgical practices such as trepanning (making a surgical hole in the skull) date back even further, almost 8,000 years ago.

The most widely believed notion in the history of medicine was that the heart was considered to the seat of intelligence and consciousness. This notion was unchallenged for hundreds of years until the time of Hippocrates – the Greek physician.
