You always wondered what stream to opt for or what subjects to take after your CBSE Class 10th board exam, but now this choosing process will become easy for you.
The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has proposed to develop an aptitude test after the board exam. This test will help school students to analyze their areas of interest and to choose and pursue the right courses.
As per official media sources, a task force consisting of officials from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and several other psychometric experts has been formed to develop a “prototype” of this anticipated test.
“All these experts are working under the HRD ministry to create a prototype of the psychometric test for the Class 9 exam. To begin with, this voluntary test may be carried out in a few areas and based on the feedback, the ministry could expand it after consulting with the state governments,” a senior official told the news agency PTI.
Secretary of School Education and Literacy, SC Khuntia, in a meeting with Senior HRD Ministry Officials last month, reviewed preparations for the aptitude test. In the meeting, the HRD ministry also discussed the possibility of creating a separate cadre of principals and headmasters for better school administration.
Right now, the proposed assessment or aptitude test is in its “preliminary” stages. This test also will be optional in nature for students but will be helpful in making the right choice to select streams. HRD ministry also suggested providing certification for students appearing for this aptitude test.
CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma told PTI that CBSE had conducted aptitude assessment exercises in the past. “These tests should only be seen as an indicator to help the students and parents in making an informed choice,” she said. HRD ministry is working on innovative ideas to improvise school education in the country.
