MoS Dr Jitendra Singh briefed about GST implementation in Meghalaya
  • The minister praised the cooperation and consistently positive response from the people of Meghalaya in adopting the new “One Nation, One Tax” GST reform.
  • This signifies not only the inclination of this North-Eastern State to be a part of the economic reform happening in rest of India, but is also a reiteration of the people of Meghalaya to be a part of the fast-track development and reform journey.

Other developmental initiatives undertaken by the Union Government in the State of Meghalaya

  • The work is in progress to lay a broad gauge rail track in the state.
  • The increasing flow of tourists witnessed during the last two years and said that he was particularly gratified by the trend of “Home Tourism” which had picked-up in Meghalaya in the last two years.
  • This was not only a boost for tourists but also generated means of livelihood for local people, particularly youth.

 

Maiden Participation of Indian Navy Band in Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

  • The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an international event of military music performance undertaken by the Armed Forces.
  • In fact, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the largest tattoo performed in the world in the majestic, sprawling stretch of Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, Scotland.
  • The invitation to the Indian Navy Band to participate and perform in this prestigious event scheduled from 01 to 26 Aug 17 is indeed a matter of pride and befitting recognition of the professional prowess of the Naval band.
  • The participation of the Naval Band would further cement the ties between the two countries.

 

Union Ministers Vijay Goel and Birender Singh Flagged off 12th Slum Yuva 
Daud in New Delhi
  • Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports would prepare mini-youth clubs in slums who will work for the development and cleanliness of their respective slums.
  • The ministry will also organize competitions in football, volleyball etc. which would enable us to find hidden sporting talent from these slums.
  • Youth is the backbone of our nation and such activities help in their all-round development and encourage them to work for nation building.
Basic Information
  • The Slum Yuva Daud is part of the Adopt Slum Campaign initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan which aims at highlighting the government’s pro-people schemes among masses.
