The UPSC has released the timetable for the civil services mains (written) exam 2018. The exams commence on 28th September 2018 and end on 7th October 2018. The 2018 civil services prelims exam was held on 3rd June this year and lakhs of aspirants took the exam. Candidates who clear the prelims will be eligible to take the UPSC mains exam, for which the commission released the timetable.
There are a total of nine exams in the UPSC CSE mains written exam. The exam will be held for five days with two papers on each day, except on the first day. The mains exam starts with Paper – 1 (Essay Paper) on 28th September 2018 in the forenoon (morning) session.

Note to remember: Candidates hailing from the north-eastern states of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur are exempt from taking the Indian language paper.
- Candidates can choose from among the following optional subjects for the Papers VI and VII:
