Is GEF part of the World Bank?

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) was once a part of the World Bank before it was restructured and moved out of the organisation to become a separate, permanent institution in 1994.

The Global Environment Facility was established on the eve of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit to help tackle our earth’s most pressing environmental problems.
