Hunting was banned under the provisions of the Wild Life (Protectio) Act, 1972. It is illegal to hunt animals for sport but under specific circumstances it is legal. Those circumstances are as follows:
- Preventing crop damage
- In the event that a certain wild animal has become dangerous for human life
- Countering vermin species
- Scientific or educational reasons.
