  • Baking soda is a chemical compound that is used as a fire extinguisher.
  • Known as Sodium bicarbonate, it contains sodium, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon.
  • Soda acid fire extinguishers include sodium bicarbonate and sulphuric acid.
  • The carbon dioxide released from such fire extinguishers reduces the supply of oxygen in the air. It displaces oxygen and the fire gets extinguished.
  • A Soda acid fire extinguisher is very effective on all types of fires except those of electrical and highly inflammable liquids. It is also an effective household fire-extinguisher.
  • Sodium Carbonate

    • It is a white crystalline powder with a salty taste.
    • Primarily used as a leavening agent in baking, it is also used in fireworks and as a mild disinfectant.
