  • The location of Islamabad played a significant role in making it the capital city. It was located in the Northern part of Pakistan, which made it easily accessible for people. Karachi was located to the South and was a port city.
  • The decision to shift the capital was made by Ayub Khan, the military head of Pakistan. He wanted the capital city in proximity to Army General Headquarters. Security reasons played another crucial factor in the shift of capital. It was difficult to invade Pakistan from the North, East, and West, because they were covered by mountains.
