- The Minister-in-charge of the finance or taxation or other Minister nominated by the State Government.
- The GST Council ensures that a uniform rate of GST is applied to goods and services in India. The Council has classified 1300 goods and 500 services into four tax slabs. They are 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.There are special rates for gold and semi-precious stones.
- The important functions of the GST Council are to determine (1) the tax rate under the GST model (2) tax exemption rules and (3) tax laws and special exemptions for states in India.
- The Quorum of GST Council includes one-half of the total members.
- There are 4 different types of GST:
- Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST)
- State Goods and Services Tax ( SGST)
- Integrated Goods and Services Tax ( IGST)
- Union Territory Goods and Services Tax ( UTGST)
