  • The retirement age of the Prime Minister of India is not mentioned in the Indian Constitution.He serves at ‘the pleasure of the president’.
  • The term of the Prime Minister is five years, which is the tenure of the Lok Sabha.
  • As long as a person enjoys the confidence of the majority of the Lok Sabha, he can continue in power.
  • Any member of Lok Sabha having an age of 25, and in Rajya Sabha, having age of 30 are eligible to be the Prime Minister of India.
  • Prime Minister of India 

    • Article 74 of the Constitution says that, there shall be a Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to aid and advise the President.
    • The Prime Minister of India is appointed by the President.
    • He must be a citizen of India,a member of Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha within six months, and should have completed the age of 30 for Rajya Sabha and 25 for Lok Sabha.
    • He is the real head of the government.
    • He is obliged to resign if he loses confidence in the Lok Sabha.
