What are GM crops and why do they cause concern?

GM crops are new inventions and not much is known about their long term effects on human beings. Experts are of the opinion that with the increase of foods based on GM crops, developing countries would start depending more on industrial countries. It is likely that the food production would be controlled by them in the time to come.
